In reverse screening order... 37 USES FOR A DEAD SHEEP screened May 2008 - Beautiful and touching documentary on a group of people we may never have heard about anywhere else. - Great to see a documentary that can make you laugh out loud. - A wonderful film. I would recommend this to many of my friends. THE LIVES OF OTHERS screened April 2008 - One of the best films i have seen at the society. Even after visiting Berlin and seeing Checkpoint Charlie, I never really understood the desperate reasons to escape East Germany until watching this film. Superb acting as well. - Touching, understated ad wonderfully performed. - Excellent film! Very thought provoking and how sad that he guy isn't around to see his success. THE PROPOSITION screened February 2008 - A truly lovely film - Too violent - Tedious, pretentious, predictable and a very weak script. Music awful. - Another tough film to view. ut life isn't just about being comfortable! - A wonderful film with some fantastic performances and a haunting soundtrack. INDIGNENES (African Festival) screened February 2008 - Very well produced. Toldthe story as it really was. - Very poignant - Governments still treat their soldiers very badly. SISTERS IN LAW (African Festival) screened February 2008 - Very moving. Are there happy films? - Superb film - I would not have come into contact with this film without the Film Society. Thankyou DURATT (African Festival) screened February 2008 - Very good. - I loved this film very much. It's 'slow' pace was perfect and amazing performances from non-actors. A delight! - Very moving. Wonderfully filmed. BAMAKO (African Festival) screened February 2008 - Fascinating. Glad i came. - A good film - A very powerful statement though the women were eloquent and the men around the court very passive. Lovely details too. Thanks - Good choice of film, food a bonus. - An excellent political polemic. - Tonight's film - what hope is there? PERFUME screened January 2008 - Excellent - very unusual and an interesting ending. Quite bizarre and like no other murder story I've seen. A great watch! - ALWAYS get a full structure survey done on your house. - Amazing, fabulous. Well done film soc again! - The best film I've seen here. - Fascinating film. Shame about Dustin Hoffman. Script pretty weak in places but well worth watching. - I have read and enjoyed teh book very much (though a long time ago). The film I found rather tedious with a lack of true characterisation or dislogue. AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH screened November 2007 - This was a really thought provoking evening. It is imperative that we all do out "little" best. - Good venue except for parking, first visit to Society evening - would come again. - Another election? - Excellent - everyone needs to see it. Very well produced and directed. - Excellent (An Inconvenient Truth). - Gore for president! Very interesting and not too depressing. - This was a great wake-up call. Thanks for showing this film. We both enjoyed it. - Thanks for showing this. I've wanted to see it for a long time. Very good. - Very thought proving film which I know has led to much debate and controversy, eg, whether this ought to be shown in schools etc. It would be great to have some summary/insight in to these types of issues on the film notes, or to have time at the end of the film to discuss the film. Maybe having a few films start at 7 to allow time for this would be an interesting development of The Society. RED ROAD screened October 2007 - Really enjoyed tonight's film - very thought provoking and clever emotional journey - more like this! For latecomers like me the info sheets are fab to take away! Thanks for your hard work. - Slow, depressing start but got a lot better. I like the Dogme style, so interesting to see another in this genre. - Brilliant stuff. A graphic and gritty portrayl of glasweigan life! A grower of a film. - Society and venue excellent. Red Road - very good film, wouldn't have chosen it but I like to expand beyond my usual genres. MURDERBALL screened July 2007 - Really Good Film, venue is good too. - Would love Volver to be on the programme in the future if possible. - Brilliant! Inspirational! - I'm a teacher and I can't wait to use it in school. Fantastic! - Scary - well worth watching. BICYCLE THEIVES screened June 2007 - Really good. - An amazing performace by the young lad playing the part of the son. - Beautifully made and a great 'realistic' ending, refreshing! But when will 'Zulu' be coming? HIDDEN (CACHE) screened February 2007 - Confusing and long scenes of nothing! - Excellent film with some great moments within. - This film has caused arguments in the bar after the showing. Does this mean it's a great film? - Boring! FAMILIA RODANTE screened February 2007 - Splendid! - Very enjoyable. - Me gusto mucho. Excellent - thanks for a great film. - Wonderful film. Great music. - A very human film. - Really enjoyed it - very natural acting, great filming. - Thoroughly enjoyable. True family life. LE GRAND VOYAGE screened January 2007 as part of "African Horizons" - Zanzibar (short film) - Felt as if I lived there, very enjoyable and very interesting. - Both films superb, beautifully filmed, underated. I left feeling I'd been on a learning journey as well as literal. - An excellent 2 films. I actually lost track of time and it ended long before I expected. - A treat to see such amazing and poignant films. - Did he have to die? Very good films - both of them. We will come back. (How about some Spanish films?) - Really good, thanks. - Superb film - wonderful food and commentary. A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE screened January 2007 - Powerful. Tipped over into comedy, but links of normality and violence in us all. Violence and sex well portrayed. No more of this for a while though! - I really enjoyed this film. Unexpected twists througout and less violent than i had expected. The end seemed a bit rushed though. - Not sure I believed it all - not my favourite - rather pretentious. - Was this Tatantino or trash? I can't work it out! MARCH OF THE PENGUINS screened November 2006 - Incredibly well shot film, the dedication of the film makers is inspiring. Beautiful. - This film spans all generations and as a family we have seen it many times, the children love it. Good to see it on the big screen. - Perfect for a cold winters evening at the local cinema. - Disappointing - I have since seen another documentary on the same subject but in only half the time! WITHNAIL & I screened November 2006 - Withnail & I made me feel so pure and clean. Thank goodness the film was so good and refreshing (no silly boy meets girl story). Must have more laughs please! - I really enjoyed the introduction and the film. Great tonic for 'back to school' blues. Cheers! - Verry funny, especially at the beginning - I cringed in many places! Looking forward to 'March Of The Penguins'. - Really funny, cheered me up on a cold evening. - Withnail - Self indulgent, sparkly little bits though. - Enjoyed it again. - Absolutely brilliant. CAPOTE screened October 2006 - Powerful, complicated. Shows how evil takes many forms. Death Penalty probably the worst. Amnesty International's campaign should include compulaory viewing of this. - Really good - I hated him by the end as he was so convincing as a manipulative soul. Thought provoking in many respects. - An amazing performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman, gripping! - Interesting main film - though provoking. Recommend everyone reads the book too. - Riveting film, but occasionally distracted by music. BABETTE'S FEAST screened September 2006 - Film fab - a real relaxer after a hard day at work! Looking forward to Capote. - What an insufferable pair of ladies (the sisters)! Really enjoyed the film though. Great menu! - Thank you for the soup. Very interesting film - I enjoyed it. Slower paced than my usual choices but still good. - Very enjoyable - I'm very hungry. - Was this story Cinderella in reverse?
